In 1870 the phylloxera of the grape devastated the French vineyards and, among them, those of the Barbier family in the region of Avignon. For this reason, Léon Barbier, son of the owners, moved to Catalonia, settling in 1880 his company in Tarragona. He was the first to sell his wine bottled and applied his knowledge of the treatment of the grape, according to the French tradition, the climate and the Catalan lands. He realized that with the use of Spanish varieties, high quality wines with an unquestionable personality could be obtained. His son René Barbier consolidated the quality of the wines and cavas and distributed them all over the world, building the brand we know today.
Our winery is located in the Penedès region, between the coastal hills and the narrow plains of the Mediterranean coast, in the heart of the central depression. There our vineyards grow and mature under the influence of the sun and the Mediterranean Sea.
